SV Werder Bremen were in high spirits following their second straight clean sheet and their first home win since the end of January. Read on for all the post-match reaction from the Green-Whites following their 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ole Werner, head coach: “This was a deserved win, because we were the better team in every phase of the game. I can only compliment my team for their performance — that was one of our best performances of the season. We set the pace, even when we didn’t have the ball, by closing down all of the key areas of the pitch. Another key point was the fact that we were very clinical with our chances.”
Marco Friedl, captain: “We did well when we didn’t have the ball and at the moment, we’re playing with a different intensity than in recent weeks. I’m happy that the team are working so well together lately and that we didn’t allow our opponents much space behind our backline. We need to do this every week in order to win games. We have to be able to take this momentum into our upcoming games.”
Oliver Burke, goalscorer to make it 1-0: “It’s a great feeling; I’m very happy for the team. We knew that Frankfurt are a tough opponent, but hard work pays off. Romano’s delivery was perfect — it’s great when something that you’ve worked on in training goes as planned in a game.”
Romano Schmid, goalscorer to make it 2-0: “The stadium was electric once again today and we managed to give the fans what they deserved. We put in a fantastic performance against a strong opponent. It felt really good out there on the pitch and like we had the game under control.”

Marvin Ducksch: “The win feels great. If you manage to defend well as a team for the full 90 minutes, then you’ll be rewarded in the end. Everyone was willing to help each other out, no matter what was needed. Overall, it was a deserved win because we put in a very mature performance that we can build on.”
Mitchell Weiser: “We stuck by each other and didn’t give up many chances. In addition to the set piece, we also had other chances to score but taking the lead like that definitely gave us a feeling of security. Overall, we played well and things went our way. The table is one thing, and our growth as a team is another — this was one of our best games today.”
Everyone left it all out on the pitch.
Jens Stage: “We played well from the first to the last second. Everyone left it all out on the pitch. Our opponents were tough, but we put in a strong performance across the full course of the game.”
Amos Pieper: “Seeing the floodlights come on is always something special here — the atmosphere was incredible. We played well right until the end and deservedly won 2-0. The fact that we defended well is something that starts up front with our strikers. We defend as a team and that’s making everything a lot easier at the minute. When everyone is in sync like we were today, then it’s possible to perform like we did today.”
