There are moments which define a club and those which can even shape a city forever. One of these such moments arrived as SV Werder secured their first German league title in 1965. 8th May 2025 will mark 60 years since the day of that triumph, the day that ignited all the success to follow. To celebrate the anniversary of this unforgettable achievement, SVW and kit partner hummel are releasing the new “third” kit which harks back to past glory.
Victories, titles and success shape both a city and a club for years to come. The Werder family is one which spans both time and generations, forming a bond between past, present and future. The kit shoot was certainly not short on nostalgia, featuring Günter Bernard and Hans Schulz, two members of the 1965 title-winning squad. Werder is a club which transcends generational boundaries, inspiring and enthusing members of each and every one – both on the pitch and in the stands.
The bold, dark-green kit is embellished by copper-coloured accents which reflect the club’s stature and successes. The first German league title triumph is acknowledged on the jersey’s collar, granting one of the most important moments in Werder’s history its rightful recognition. The gradient of colour, gradually becoming lighter further down the shirt, provides a unique look. Another special nod to the success of 1965 can be found in the numbers on the back of the shirt, which embody a retro style.
The men’s senior team will first take to the pitch in their new strip, adorned with primary club sponsor Matthäi, during their Bundesliga home fixture against RB Leipzig this coming Saturday. The Werder women’s side will then feature in the kit, with their shirt sponsor Ammerländer, for the first time away to SC Freiburg on the final matchday of the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga season on Sunday.
“Acknowledgment and preservation of the tradition of Werder Bremen has held major significance at the club for a long time,” explained chairman of the board at SV Werder Klaus Filbry. “Past successes laid the foundation for this club, which we look back on with great reverence even now. The new ‘third’ kit is something truly special due to the integration of the 1965 league title triumph in the design, a defining moment in the history of Werder Bremen.”
