SV Werder Bremen have signed defender Isaac Schmidt on a season-long loan from Premier League outfit Leeds United. Both clubs have agreed on a buy option for the 25-year-old following the conclusion of the loan, as confirmed by Peter Niemeyer, Werder's director of professional football.

"We've had Isaac on our radar for a while now and were already familiar with him from his time at St. Gallen. We're pleased to now have been able to sign him on loan. He will help strengthen our squad with his qualities and his variability. Isaac is capable of playing several positions out wide," Niemeyer explained.

Head coach Horst Steffen is also looking forward to having the Switzerland international (3 caps) join up with the team. "Isaac brings a strong tactical understanding with him, in addition to pace and energy. He's match-fit and will help strengthen our team," he said.

"I'm happy to be here and am looking forward to my time at Werder," said Schmidt. "I'm convinced that we will be able to achieve our goals together."

The 25-year-old has featured in 14 competitive games for Leeds United since joining the club in summer 2024. Before moving to England, the Switzerland international spent 2021 to 2024 at FC St. Gallen, scoring seven goals in 108 competitive appearances for the side. He began his playing career at the FC Lausanne academy.
