Despite only spending only a few days in Hanoi, the visit left a lasting impression on Werder’s board members. “It is a great visit that has been planned and organised well. We were given a very warm welcome. The openness with which our women’s team have gone about the trip and engaged in every event scheduled is fantastic to see. The group is having a lot of fun together and we will travel home having gathered many positive experiences. It was the right decision to journey here to Vietnam and round off a very successful season for our women’s team. It is nice to see the ongoing development within women’s football, that interest in women’s football is ever-growing and that it is becoming increasingly visible,” explained managing director professional football Clemens Fritz.
For Klaus Filbry, the Werder women’s visit is the next important step in terms of the links between Werder and Vietnam. “Thanks to Dominik Kupilas’ excellent development work, we have already made our mark here and laid important foundations. We’ve been to schools and helped to introduce children to football. We work closely with Vietnamese influencers to promote Werder here and now have one of our teams visiting. That signifies the next step and the local people really appreciate the fact that we have a lasting interest. Vietnam is an up-and-coming, interesting country, which is why we want to continue to be involved in things here going forward.”
For the chairman of the board, the invitation to the German ambassador’s residence was a particular highlight of the trip. “The invitation shows the great esteem in which we are held,” told Filbry. The city of Hanoi also created an impression on the 58-year-old. “We went on a city tour, experiencing the diversity of Hanoi. On the one hand, we noticed the communist, statist element of the country, while on the other hand, there were lots of small, chaotic alleyways and influences of the French colonial era were also present.”
Klaus Filbry concluded by praising the Werder women’s team: “Werder Bremen is very well represented here. We have brought a world-class team along with us. It is a great reflection on them that we have made this trip and what they are giving back on the visit is absolutely outstanding.”
